TEDxMoncton Salon 2017: Warm and Fuzzy Ethics
Salons are a new format by TED where we get together, watch a handful of talks and then have round table discussions about the talks we watch. It’s simple and it give us an opportunity to learn perspectives and share our ideas with other TED fans.
The next TEDxMonctonSalon is Thursday, January 26th, 7-9pm at the Venn Centre.

Hélène is an emerging CEO with a passion. Her altruistic complex being greater than her ego, she does what she can to improve her surroundings and offers a contribution to leave it better than she first found it.
LTC Energy facilitates connecting new technologies with power producers with the aim of increasing renewables generation and lowering carbon emissions.
Her commitment to the community is well represented by her involvement with multiple boards and committees. She tries to give as much as she receives and she has extended her reach by being the co-chair of TEDxMoncton.
She holds a BA from Bishop’s University ‘03, a certificate in Management Development from UNB ‘08, a 2013 graduate of the ELP program from the WMI and she’s currently taking Energy Fundamentals for Leaders at UNBSJ. Not an academic, but she does love to learn.
Connectedness is her biggest strength, however, what she doesn’t like is speaking in the third person. That being said, reach out, I love making new friends!
As an Occupational Therapist, Steph spends her days advocating for the needs of her community-based mental health clients. She completed her Bachelor of Science at Mount Allison University and her Masters degree at Dalhousie University. In her downtime, Steph can generally be found in a dance studio, hitting the trails for a run, enjoying the outdoors, SCUBA diving or scratching items off her bucket list. She also volunteers with the disaster management chapter of The Canadian Red Cross. This is Steph’s third year with TEDxMoncton.

A transplant to Moncton, Trish grew up outside Truro, NS. After high school, Trish moved to PEI to pursue an education in Accounting. Despite enjoying numbers, Trish realized she enjoyed people more and transferred to an Arts program to major in English and minor in Women’s Studies. She followed up her BA with a B’Ed in Primary Education with a specialization in International Education.
During her education degree, Trish was able to experience teaching at the Early Childhood level and truly loved it. Blessed with an employer who became an amazing mentor, Trish spent almost 10 years teaching at Campus Kids Childcare Centre at UPEI. After a short stint in the public school system, Trish became acutely aware of the need to rethink our current system to help our youth become engaged, confident members of society.
After officially moving to NB in 2013, Trish took a break from teaching children and began to informally teach adults in a completely unexpected setting: the retail market. In her current position, she helps people realize the importance of communication, physical fulfillment, and that we are not alone in our struggles.
Trish is passionate about teaching, particularly in the Sexual Health and Wellness realm, performing Burlesque, pole and aerial hoop fitness, and singing(even though she’s not very good). She is very excited to be joining the amazing TEDxMoncton team, and is looking forward to helping provide opportunities for open communication.
What is TEDx?
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. Our event is called TEDxMoncton, where x = independently organized TED event. At our TEDxMoncton event, TEDTalks video and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including ours, are self-organized.
